O’s Notes: Liquid Soul is a band of top R&B musicians including Phil Ajjarapu, (b), Tony Taylor (d), co-founder Tommy Klein (g) and leader/producer Mars Williams (sax). Guest stars include Vernon Reid (g), DJ Logic, and John Hermann (keyboards). They play club beats with a hip-hop groove with interleaved vocal lines and brass accents. The mix reminds us of Brass Construction circa 1970s in some spots. The beats on “Attaboy” are contagious. You’ll be enticed to at least pat you feet. They light it up and the groove is smoking all the way through. “Sex God”, the more relaxed “Peanut Head” and “Body And Mind” are among the best.
