O’s Notes: Mark composed all 10 of these free flowing jazz compositions. Modern song is a lazy melody featuring second tenor Elery Eskelin. Helias plays bass with Tom Rainey on drums percussion and Tony Mailby on Tenor sax. They start out swinging on “What Up” before venturing back to their free form space. There is lots of adventure and surprise on Open Loose but Mark manages to keep everything tight.
