O’s Notes: Pianist and composer Helen Sung assembles her first big band for her latest album. They perform a dozen selections with eight specially designed as odes to master artists, the Oracles. They open, cooking on “Convergence”, and move on to a strong program with “Wayne’s World” for Shorter, “A Little Bird Watchin’” for Jimmy Heath, the laid back, cool “Pianism I-III” dedicated to Barry Harris, Kenny Barron, and Herbie Hancock respectively, before wrapping up with “Peace”, a suitable call for harmony.
