O’s Notes: Trumpeter Chris Pasin is an admirer of the creative landscape created by Don Cherry and Ornette Coleman. He formed a band to celebrate this art form on“Ornettiquette. Karl Berger plays vibes with Adam Siegel on alto sax, Harvey Soren on drums and bassist Michael Bisio. Ingrid Sertso adds vocals on Albert Ayler’s “Ghosts” and scats on “When Will the Blues Leave”. The music is mostly hard bop with spontaneity pushing the limit to avant-garde a la Coleman/Cherry. Five selections are Coleman tunes along with two Pasin originals. Chris is not afraid to dance on the boundaries and he encourages band mates to do the same resulting in an adventure that is true to its task.
