O’s Notes: Pianist, composer, producer Richard D. Johnson is the founder of AFAR music. His latest release is Our Heroes honoring musical forebears that impacted the band members. Saxophonist Geof Bradfield, bassist John Tate, and drummer Samuel Jewell join Johnson for a rich exchange. The songs are all originals by Johnson (4), Bradfield (3), and Tate (2). Bradfield’s sax is warm, and his melodies are embraceable especially on “Some Other Sunday”. We also enjoyed “Blues For Stanley Cowell” and “High & Low”.
