O’s Notes: Helveticus is a modern jazz band featuring Daniel Humar (d), Samuel Blaser (tb), and Heiri Kanzig (b). They are from three different generations, aged 86, 42, and 66 respectively, however they play from the same sheet of music! Our Way includes originals, fresh arrangements of Swiss folk songs, and covers of Monk and Ellington. The cordless combo is unique as is Blaser’s trombone. His tone is exquisite, leading most melodies and drawing listeners into their mood. “Heiri’s Idea”, “Warming Up” and “Creole Love Call” are highlights.
