O’s Notes: Bay Area vocalist Pittson is a jazz singer who is heavily influenced by horn players such as Coltrane and Michael. But the focus of her latest project is the music of the late Freddy Hubbard. She enlists the support of a fine band including Jeremy Pelt (t), Steve Wilson (sax) and John Patitucci (b). Suzanne opens with a rich arrangement of “Our Own” shadowed by and scatting with Pelt on some fierce exchanges. They continue grooving on the title track with a fine solo by Pelt. Suzanne’s husband, pianist Jeff Pittson who shares her passion for the music of Hubbard, did the arrangements. Suzanne aspires to have the impact that Freddie had with his solos. She and Pelt reach this level several times on this recording to our delight.
