O’s Notes: Sweatshop is a trio consisting of Edan Dover (keyboards), Kyle Lewis (b) and Adam Christgau (d). They play funky, contemporary jazz as well as straight ahead bop. The opener has a retro funk beats followed by “Frappachino” with a cool fusion feel that is fresh with Matt Garrison adding sax. “Bangin'” is super syncopated with Ryan Fukunaga on sax. There’s a really cool arrangement of “Cantaloupe Island”, again with Matt on sax. They show their diversity with three swinging bonus tracks, “Footprints”, “Stella By Starlight” and a bouncy version of “There Will Never Be Another You”. Two thumbs up!
