O’s Notes: Guitarist Doug MacDonald assembles an All-Star Octet that includes Ira Nepus (tb), Ricky Woodard (t-sax), Kim Richmond (a-sax), Aaron Janik (t), Bill Cunliffe (keyboards, B3), Chuck Berghofer (b) and Roy McCurdy (d). The combination results in a balanced approach with shared melodies and solos exemplified on tunes like “Night By Night” and “Horntense”. 7 of the 8 selections are originals surrounding a cover of “Lover Man”. Doug reminds us of his prowess on “Blues By Eight” and “Bossa By Eight”.
