O’s Notes: Japanese improvisational artists Satoko Fujii (p) and Otomo Yoshihide (g) combine for four lengthy compositions on Perpetual Motion. The extraction of sounds from their instruments is profound and quite imaginative. This album is not for the meek and timid as it is explosive at times and very dynamic. The rage approximates acid rock on steroids, with some shrill peaks, a sampling from a horror movie, balanced by Yoshihide’s tremolo and Fujii’s softer piano strikes. It’s a rollercoaster of sorts that is quite an adventure.
