O’s Notes: Motor City saxophonist James Carter returns to the scene with a polished set ten standards and originals. His band is strong with James Genus (b), Victor Lewis (d) and D. D. Jackson (p). Rodney Jones (g) plays on four tunes as well, D. D. makes his presence known on “Bro Dolphy” and Carter is right there on “Pour Que Ma Vie Demeure” making his sax speak. From there they break into a sassy bossa nova. Carter’s sound is well seasoned especially when he selects the baritone sax and bass clarinet. Check out “Shadowy Sands” for a dose of splendor! This may be Carter’s best yet.
