O’s Notes: Public is a live set featuring Osby (sax) with a strong rhythm section composed of Robert Hurst (b), Rodney Green (p) and Megumi Yonezawa (p). Guest artist Nicholas Payton (t) shows up on four of the seven songs. The arrangements are unique giving new meaning to classics like “Summertime”. Their approach borders on free jazz. We liked the racy feel of “Shaw Nuff”. The session culminates with an excellent statement: “Lover Man” with warm vocals from Joan Osborne with fine accompaniment from Greg and the band.
