O’s Notes: Guitarist, Randy Napoleon is a professor, performer and a student of his instrument. For Puppets he plays The Music of Gregg Hill, music that is typically rock, roots and country but here Randy makes it 100% straight ahead jazz. Napoleon leads a quartet with pianist Rick Roe, bassist Rodney Whitaker and Quincy Davis on drums. Vocalist Aubrey Johnson scats on top of Randy’s guitar on notably on “Fan-o-gram” & “Lyrica”, and sings on “Wide River”. Seth Ebersole adds bass clarinet and flute on 6 of the 11 selections.
