O’s Notes: Steve is one of the most exciting jazz artists to enjoy in a live performance. He’s played with many greats and excelled as a leader as well. He plays trombone and also blows great tone through seashells! He assembles a fine cast here including pianist Mulgrew Miller who keeps things rolling on “Groove Blues”. Peter Washington (b), Kenny Garrett (sax), Ignacio Berroa (d), Pedro Martinez (perc) and Sean Jones (t) are the rest of the band. Turre wrote seven of the nine tunes and keeps things interesting with a taste of Spain on “Midnight In Madrid”, some blues and also the inspirational ballad “Brother Ray” dedicated to the late Ray Charles. They all get a chance to burn on Parker’s “Segment” before they wrap up the set with a little salsa on “Para El Comandante”.
