O’s Notes: Poncho is doing a lot more than playing the congas on this recording. He also adds lead vocals on four songs. The program is a mixture of traditional Caribbean classics like “El Agua De Pelen” and some soul classics like “Shotgun”. In both cases the rhythms are strong, tight and well punctuated with brass including Ron Blake on trumpet. Special guests include Eddie Floyd singing “Knock On Wood” and the title track along with Maceo Parker playing sax on “Shotgun” and “Maceo’s House”.
