O’s Notes: Ed leads a quartet with Drew Gress (b), John Hollenbeck (d) and Fritz Pauer (p). They have been together since 1999 and are a seamless unit. Neumeister’s work on trombone is excellent. He works well with and without the mute leading the melodies over eight originals. Each of the band members contributes to the compositions and each also displays their own talents. Most of the tunes are reflective ballads as the title suggests but they do increase the pace from time to time swinging on tracks like “Yanagumi”. Overall it is a very relaxing set.
