O’s Notes: Alto saxophonist Jesse Davis is from New Orleans but makes his home in Italy where he’s lived for two decades! If you don’t know him, Reflections is a good way to become acquainted. He leads an all-star crew with Spike Wilner (p), John Webber (b), and. Lewis Nash (d). They open with “Blue Autumn”, giving us a taste of each musician in a shared spotlight that extends throughout the session. The blues swag of “Choctaw Alley” feels just right. Davis is passionate on his horn with a definitive expression that defines the moods. We tapped our feet to “Funk Sugo” and found ourselves smiling on the rest!
