O’s Notes: Guitarist, composer Jackson Potter is a rising talent to watch. Restless is his debut recording, a quartet with Patrick Leavy (b), Leo Folsom (p) and Gibb Mandish (d). Seven of the eight selections were written, arranged and produced by Potter. The eighth is a crisp cover of Steve Swallow’s “Falling Grace”. They open swinging on “Bird Flu” and continue with new tunes that already feel like standards. Guest artists David Mason (a-sax), Joey Curreri (t) and Carter Key (t-sax) flesh out the band on “Hindsight is 2020” and wrap up the session with a little jazz-fusion on the title track, ”Restless”!
