O’s Notes: Hugh is back with a cool refreshing South African sound including a steady injection of warm melodies from his flugelhorn. He unites with his fellow countrymen to capture local contemporary jazz sounds. Masekela also provides lead vocals on this session. The rhythm section is strong with tight bass lines from Lucas Senyatso and lively guitar from Themba Mokeona. The brass harmonizing on “Fresh Air” is excellent. This is happy music from a people who are now beyond their freedom, now trying to get a piece of the pie. With music, they have already arrived as artists.
