O’s Notes: The All-Stars are a collective that includes Deodato (p), Dino Rangel (g), Palmayra (v) & Levita (g) from Bahia, Ithamara Koorax (v), DJ Fino (samples) and Dom Um Romão (d). They have come together to record some of the contemporary jazz sounds from Brazil. These include traditional bossa nova beats as well as sambas, including Carnival music complete with the Afro-Brazilian percussive beats and chants. There’s no doubt that Brazilian jazz is still alive and flourishing.
