O’s Notes: Dr. Lonnie Smith is a well-respected jazz master on the Hammond B3. He teams up with Donald Harrison (sax), Peter Bernstein (g) and Herlin Riley (d) for some soulful burners. They don’t waste any time getting to business starting with “A Matterapat”. Lonnie adds vocals and a funky melody to transform “Come Together” then takes us to church on “Pilgrimage”. All of the covers take on new life with Smith’s arrangements and of course his originals are complete with his home cooking. The contributions from Peter and Donald make “People make the World Go Round” hum! We also liked the blues feel of “Tyrone”
