O’s Notes: Many cultures and musicians throughout the Americas have influenced Puerto Rican pianist Edsel Gomez. He has incorporated all of those elements into his Latin style. He uses many young Brazilians like bassist Arismar Do Espirito Santo, Walmar Gil (flugelhorn) and saxophonist Cássio Ferreira along with guest Freddie Bryant (g) to put fire into the songs. This contrasts with the tranquility on both “Brothers” and “Homesick Nostalgia”, a tribute to Gomez’s homeland. We also enjoyed “Ninibilo Majulolo and The Bridge” featuring Arismar and “Charlie Chaplin” showcasing Panamanian flutist Roberto Pitre Vázquez. Gomez pulls his ‘brotherhood’ together with fine work on piano making Road to Udaipur a fine effort.
