O’s Notes: Romance Language is a Valentine’s Day release for Kirk Whalum and it is truly a gift of love. As always Kirk’s voice on tenor sax is warm and inviting. The surprise addition is Kirk’s younger brother Kevin Whalum singing rich lead vocals! Guest Hugh, “Peanuts” Whalum (Kirk’s uncle) takes the lead singing “Almost Doesn’t Count”. We also enjoyed the soulful rendition of “You Are Too Beautiful” and the tropical feel of “Autumn Serenade”. These are just two of many gems in a beautifully romantic session.
