O’s Notes: Maceo has provided entertainment as a member of soul/R&B bands, as a prominent member in the best funk bands, as a jazz sax player and as a leader of countless bands performing around the globe. On Roots & Grooves he partners with the WDR Big Band. They celebrate the music of Ray Charles on the 1st CD and then conjure up some serious funk on disc 2. Maceo displays new talent singing some of Ray’s tunes notably “Georgia On My Mind”. His sax is on target as usual. This is a party on the second CD with “Pass The Peas” and “Shake Everything You Got”.
