O’s Notes: Royce follows up his Philology Records debut release again in a drummerless trio format with pianist Hod O’Brien and either James King or Pete Spaar on bass. The formula is the same using improvisation to recreate melodies over the rhythms of standards. The titles give you a clue but otherwise these are fresh Campbell tunes. Once again we are pleased with the outcome. Among the best are “Lover Guy”, “More Than Just Friends” and “G Jam Blues”.
