O’s Notes: The Kelly McCarty 3 is a contemporary New Orleans, R&B trio with a lot of soul. John A. Diaz-Cortes leads the charge on tenor sax with A. J. Hall handling the beats and McCarty pulling it all together with his 8-string guitar. We liked the popping beats of “Summer Beer”; the reggae beats on “Bactrian” & “Hooverville”, and the funky, cool blues on “Ode To Fred Hampton”. Lots of variety and fresh sounds here make Roux Steady a winner.
