O’s Notes: We last reviewed Bergeon’s jazz translation of Debussy’s work and enjoyed it. On Sacred Feast the trumpeter/arranger/producer (Bergeron) is inspired by the music of 20th century French composer Olivier Messiaen. Thomas assembles a septet with Jason Ennis (g), Vitor Gonalves (accordion, p), Hannah Collins (cello), Michael Bates (b) and Satoshi Takeishi (perc) with featured vocalist Becca Stevens. The music professor Thomas Bergeron has again transformed classic works into vibrant jazz. Of note is the title track (all three parts) that morphs between genres but is simply delightful.
