O’s Notes: The Unity Quartet is Hélio Alves (p), Guilherme Monteiro (g), Gili Lopes (b) and Alex Kautz (d). All four Brazilians now reside in New York, but the soothing samba remains in their musical DNA. The sound on Samba Of Sorts is fresh, with hints of fusion, but always relaxing like a true bossa nova. “Frenzy”, “Pau De Arara”, “Jogral”, the mellow “Paloma Plage”, and the funky title track are highlights.
