O’s Notes: Canadian composer Steve Rosenbloom accumulated some of his best work over the past 30+ years for his current album San Francisco 1948. The musicians are a polished, Montreal-based, 17-piece big band. The arrangers are trombonist Chris Smith (the older tunes), and tenor saxophonist Michael Johancsik for the four recent compositions. We enjoyed the vibe of “In a Boppish Sort of Way” featuring Johancsik and Cameron Milligan (t), the gentle sway of “Mosley”, the somewhat melancholic title track, and the upbeat Latin tunes.
