O’s Notes: While he had a jazz foundation, he explored the world funk with the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. He has developed his own career nicely on the R&B and Contemporary jazz scene. Two hot examples: “Advanced Funk”, a jazzy, funky number that really screams and “Arts & Crafts”, with more of a cool jazz groove. On School’s In! Parker teaches us plenty about how it is done with a series of head bobbing tunes that prove the old master still has what it takes to make hits.
