O’s Notes: Duane (t) takes pride in sharing the stage. His band is raw and aggressive, yet tight. Drummer Ralph Peterson is pronounced, balanced by bassist Dwayne Burno. The brass; JD Allen (ts), Antonio Hart (as), and Robin Eubanks (tb) is crisp on the burners and sweet on the ballads. This is mostly bebop but “Ebony Slick” is a funky contemporary number that could catch lots of air play. A cool sophomore recording!
