O’s Notes: BPM is typically the acronym for Beats Per Minute, but in this case it’s the latest smooth jazz combo featuring bassist Brian Bromberg, guitarist Paul Brown, and saxophonist Michael Paulo. They have the perfect blend of jazz and funky R&B to make you want to move, with a laid-back groove. The headliners display their prowess throughout the set with Bromberg shining on the title track, Brown delivering his characteristic liquid melodies on “Gridlock” & “Breakfast In Bed” featuring guest Philippe Saisse (p), and Paulo warming our soul on the title track. The nice thing about these super groups is that we don’t get lulled into boredom by an overindulgence of one artist or instrument. Seriously is hopefully the first of many from BPM.
