O’s Notes: Seth Ford-Young is one of the hottest jazz bassists in the Bay Area and this is his self-titled debut recording. He’s in his late thirties and has been playing professionally for most of that time! Don’t mistake his late entry as a leader for a lack of polish and experience. Take a listen. His quartet includes Rob Reich on accordion, violinist Evan Price and guitarist Jason Vanderford. The program is chamber-style jazz mixed with gypsy music that allows the beauty of the instruments to surface. We like the arrangements as well as Ford-Young’s original compositions. He picks up the mic for a few tracks notably “If I Could Be With You” to add more depth and variety resulting in an enjoyable session.
