O’s Notes: Japanese pianist and composer Miki Yamanaka assembles a quartet with Mark Turner (t-sax), Tyrone Allen (b), and Jimmy McBride (d). Shades if Rainbow is the second recording of Yamanaka’s expanded trio including Turner. The foursome is now fully congealed as a unit. There are eight original selections. We liked the breakneck pace on “Uh Oh”, “Gin”, “That Ain’t Betty”, and the warmth of “Calm” featuring Turner best in the eight-song set.
