O’s Notes: Shades of Sound is a live session recorded at the late Jazz Standard in New York. The venue closed in 2020 but one of the most memorable sessions was The Gil Evans Project, captured back in 2014. Half of the eight recordings are being released for the first time here. Wendy Gilles sings “Laughing at Life” and the title track adding softness to the session. Donny McCaslin (t-sax), Dave Pietro (a-sax), Ryan Keberle (tb), Steve Wilson (a-sax, cl), Tom Christensen (t-sax), Lewis Nash (d), Marshall Gilkes (tb) and the late Frank Kimbrough (p) are among the many fine musicians with notable contributions.
