O’s Notes: Saxophonist/bassist Norbert Stachel assembles a world-class band to play his music on“Shades of the Bay. Ray Obiedo (g), Marc Van Wageningen (b), Dave Matthews (p, Hammond) and Yosvany Terry (chekere) are among the many who help bring it home! They play a good mix of soulful contemporary jazz, some Latin and a taste of gospel on “Peace on Earth.” There’s even a little funk on “Last Minute Blues”. The energy level is up and the intensity level is off the charts on “For Tito”, “Mandela” and more.
