O’s Notes: Bassist, Vicente Archer steps out of the shadows of the rhythm section of many bands, into the spotlight as the leader on his latest release, Short Stories. His role is prominent but not overwhelming, in part because of the varied styles he imparts. There is a noticeable contribution from pianist Gerald Clayton on “Round Comes Round”, as well as drummer Bill Stewart who keeps good time and pace throughout the set. Highlights are the warm “Message To A Friend”, “Bye Nashville”, and “Lighthouse”.
