O’s Notes: This is Kate’s first recording on Palmetto. She uses strings to get a full rich sound from the 10-piece band. The music has a stage feel on the title track which evolves into happy-go-lucky blues like “Gypsy In My Soul” and a very nice arrangement of “Aqui O” with Brazilian Portuguese lyrics. McGarry scats on “East of the Sun”, a bop tune before romancing us with “This Is Always”. It’s a varied balanced set.
