O’s Notes: Ehud Asherie celebrates the music from Eubie Blake and Noble Sissle’s 1921 Broadway Musical Shuffle Along. This is a series of modern day classics, from the first musical composed and performed by African Americans on Broadway. Their success helped reshape musicals forever, infusing swinging jazz and ragtime into the mix. This is a solo piano effort with a lot to enjoy. Our favorite is “Everything Reminds Me of You”. There are not many people playing ragtime today and Asherie does a fine job embracing and recreating the art form. It’s time to celebrate with this release.
