O’s Notes: Zack Pitt-Smith (sax, fl), Jesse Appelman (mandolin), Brian ‘Oran (g) and Ami Molinelli (perc) make up Grupo Falso Baiano, a Brazilian quartet. Simplicidade is a Live set captured at Yoshi’s in San Francisco in July 2010. Special guests Brian Rice (perc) and the legendary Jovino Santos Neto (p, accordion, fl) joined them for the core of the set and also the finale. Of note are the syncopated beats of “Kenny Voc”, the lively “Feira Livre” and “Deixa O Breque” featuring a strong solo from Molinelli. It was a festive evening.
