O’s Notes: Trombonist Steve Swell is a true improviser. He believes in planting many seeds to harvest at least a few excellent pieces of fruit! As such he employs a talented team with Sabir Mateen (sax, cl, fl), John Blum (p), Matthew Heyner (b) and Klaus Kugel (d). They perform seven of Swell’s originals. We found a couple of prime tunes in the harvest: “Where Are The Heartfelt?” and “Sketch #2”. This is an adventurous journey in to the land of the abstract.
