O’s Notes: We reviewed this CD immediately after Shirley Scott’s Trio Classics. It was a perfect set up for then and now with the Hammond B3. Ledonne is primarily a pianist but also rocks on the B3. He has a steady Tuesday night gig a Smoke in New York City since 2000. We haven’t caught him there but after listening to this CD, it’s on our agenda! Mike marries the organ with his band, Peter Bernstein (g), Eric Alexander (sax) and Joe Farnsworth (d). These guys are tight and always in the pocket. The combination produces great music with unselfish interactions and a solid groove. You can hear it best on “Deliliah”, cooking on “You’ll See” and with Eric romancing us on “Superstar”. But those are highlights in a strong set. Check out how the B3 is working in 2004!
