O’s Notes: Puerto Rican trumpeter and composer Charlie Seplveda leads a Latin based sextet that he calls The Turnaround. Gabriel Rodriguez (b), Bienvenido Donzey (p), Godwin Vargas (congas) and Francisco Alcalá (d) form a solid foundation for the warm brass melodies by Norberto Ortiz (sax) and Sepveda. These Songs For Nat are true to form in honor of Charlie’s new wife Natalia (not the late, great jazz trumpeter Nat Adderley). These are all original tunes by Sepulveda reflecting the warmth he feels for his wife as they recovered from the wrath of tropical storms hitting the island in 2017. It is truly an inspiration.
