O’s Notes: Pharaoh’s Daughter was formed in 1995 and led by vocalist Basya Schechter. Songs of Desire is a blend of traditional Jewish lyrics with Mid-Eastern instrumentation, and multilingual vocals. It is dedicated to the late orchestrator Jasmshied Sharifi. It is a cool, relaxing world music composed mostly by Schechter. The exotic, tropical, vocal tracks like “Yonati”, “Asleep”, “Shephard Song” and “Better Than Wine” are highlights of the dozen selections.
