O’s Notes: Puerto Rican, jazz keyboardist, composer Zuccai Curtis plays a blend of Afro-Caribbean rhythms in a sophisticated jazz fusion on Sonoluminesence, his latest release. Curtis shares the stage with talented musicians and gives each of them a chance to shine. The core band is Zaccai (keys, vocals), Craig Handy (t-sax, fl), Joe Dyson (d), Brevan Hampden (congas, perc), with bass duty split between Luques Curtis and Mike Boone. Aurelien Budynek (g) brings a taste of fusion to the mix on “Message”. We enjoyed the punctuation on “Last Call” and the mellow “I Want To Feel The Way You Move”, the title track featuring singer Julie Acosta, and the cool vibe on “Wellspring”.
