O’s Notes: This work focused on the civil Rights movement and the role of music in helping us cope, progress and heal along the way. Shelby does an excellent job recreating the Soul of the Movement in a vibrant collection of refreshed arrangements of traditional selections along with some period classics and a few originals. We enjoyed the recreation of “Amen”; the playful spirit of “Black Cab”; “Trouble on the Bus”; and the rich rendition of “Take my Hand Precious Lord” featuring Faye Carol (vocals) and Howard Wiley (tenor sax).
