O’s Notes: Native Soul is a quartet featuring founder Noah Haidu (keyboards), Peter Brianin (sax), Marcus McLaurine (b) and drummer Steve Johns. They play a mix of both contemporary and traditional jazz styles written by each of the members. We enjoyed the soulful ballad “Deep Blue”, the funky fusion of “End of A Love Affair” and the title track. We also liked the swinging groove on “Slipstream”. This is a solid effort both individually and collectively leading us to repeated play and anticipation of the next step.
