O’s Notes: We missed this one last December but it’s one of the best contemporary jazz Holiday collections you will find. Culbertson teams up with an all-star team to give a dozen Holiday favorites fresh blood. The groove is exactly as the title suggests, packed with soul starting with “Joy to the World” featuring The Jason White Ensemble and Culbertson tickling the keys. Warren Hill (sax) warms “Deck The Halls”; Michael McDonald croons on “All Through The Christmas Night” and they get funky on an instrumental rendition of “Rudolph…” that will sound good throughout the year! Among the many musicians that contribute are Tony Maiden (g), Ricky Peterson (B3), Jeff Lorber (Wurlitzer), Peter White (g), Brian Bromberg (b) and Eric Marienthal (sax).
