O’s Notes: This live session features two polished professionals performing eight standards including two written by Williams and one of Bobby’s. It was made in 2003, thirteen months before Williams’ untimely death. Pamela Baskin -Watson adds vocals on “Skylark” to broaden the appeal. James (p) and Bobby (sax) were great friends from when they both played with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. The bond between them spills into the music whether it’s straight ahead, blues or spiritual. It feels very good and it is a great session.
