O’s Notes: Soprano saxophonist and composer Stephane Spira leads the charge on radio-friendly songs like “After Rain” and many other easy going tunes. Pianist Giovanni Mirabassi is the co-leader who stands out on “Lawns” and the engaging groove of “Improkifiev”. The combined band is called Spirabassi, a quartet with Steve Wood (b) and Donald Kontomanou (d). There are seven selections that go for ~43 minutes, just enough to set the mood for a relaxed evening.
